Paranormal Activity in Trailer Parks on the Rise: Redneck Ghost Stories Prove Truth is Funnier than Fiction
A North Carolina based humorist, Weaver may very well be the only ghost investigator specializing in mobile home hauntings. His website offers a “Trailer Ghost Proofing Kit,” with hilarious ways to ghost-proof any home. The Kit includes a t-shirt and a copy of his critically-acclaimed CD, “Looking for Fun”, a collection of funny songs and sketches that includes the track “Ghost in the Trailer.” See http://www.trailerghost.com/
An avid ghost buff, Weaver began talking about redneck apparitions, which he refers to as “trailer ghosts,” in his stand-up comedy routine. “I used to say that one advantage of living in mobile homes was never having to worry about ghosts” Weaver says. “I figured a spirit would never want to return to a trailer in the afterlife. But I heard so many stories about mobile home hauntings that I had to share them with the world.”
The site mixes ghost fact and folklore with hilarious results. For example, here are a few warning signs that your trailer may be haunted:
·
The room is spinning, and you’re not even drunk yet.
·
Blood drips out of your simulated wood paneling.
·
The trailer is shaking, but there’s no tornado in sight.
“Make sure that car in your front yard really is on blocks, and not levitating by itself,” Weaver advises.
Although his research is tongue-in-cheek, Weaver insists that trailer ghosts are real. “Anyone can be terrorized by a trailer ghost—you don’t have to live in a mobile home. Developers have built many upscale housing developments and office complexes over razed trailer parks, and the new inhabitants are all at risk.”
Weaver points to a Barboursville, WV haunting where a ghost reportedly terrorized the inhabitants of a mobile home. Even after the landowners removed the trailer, paranormal activity continued.
“Truth is definitely stranger—and funnier—than fiction” says Weaver. “I couldn’t make up stuff this good.”
